Yusuf Sulaimon Lasun (born 4 October 1960) is a Nigerian politician who served as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria from 2015 to 2019. He represented the Irepodun/Olurunda/Osogbo/Orolu Federal Constituency of Osun State in the House.


Early Life and Education

    • Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School, Erin.
    • Ifon/Erin Community High School, Ifon (1973–1979).
  • Tertiary Education:
    • University of Ibadan, Oyo State – Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife – Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Profession: Chartered Engineer.

Political Career

  • Known as "The Homeboy" due to his grassroots appeal in Osun State.
  • Early Political Roles:
    • Youth leader, Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).
    • State Public Relations Officer (PRO), Alliance for Democracy (AD) during Chief Bisi Akande's administration.
  • Appointment: Chairman, Osun State Capital Territory Development Authority (OSCTDA) (2004–2005) under Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

National Assembly

  • 2011: Elected to the 7th National Assembly representing Irepodun/Olurunda/Osogbo/Orolu Federal Constituency under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
    • Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources.
    • Member, Constitutional Review Committee.
  • 2015: Re-elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
    • Elected Deputy Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives with 203 votes.
    • Speaker: Yakubu Dogara.
  • 2018: Defected from APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
  • 2022: Contested in the Osun State gubernatorial election as the Labour Party candidate; lost to PDP’s Ademola Adeleke. Later returned to the PDP.

Legislative Activities

  • Presided over the House in the absence of Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
  • Led Nigeria’s delegation to the 15th Commonwealth Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference (African Region) in Accra, Ghana (November 2015) as Deputy Chairperson.
  • Represented the Speaker at the House Committee on Power’s investigative public hearing on the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) (December 1, 2015).
  • Presided over the second reading of the bill establishing the North-East Development Commission.
