Muhammad Garba is a Nigerian journalist and politician from Kano State, currently serving as Commissioner of Information. He is also a member of the Steering Committee of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).


Early Life and Education

Muhammad Garba was born on 22 November 1964 in Yakasai Quarters, Kano Municipal, Kano State.
He attended: - Kofar Nassarawa Primary School - Teachers College, Sumaila

He obtained both his first and second degrees from Bayero University, Kano.


Career

Muhammad began his journalism career in 1989 with Triumph Publishing Company Limited, Kano as a reporter, serving across various Nigerian states. He later held roles as: - Sub-Editor - Chief Sub-Editor - Group News Editor - Deputy Editor

He also served on the editorial boards of several national newspapers.

Political and Government Roles

  • 1993: Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives
  • 1999–2003: Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje
  • 2015: Appointed Commissioner of Information, Kano State by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje
