Malcolm Ohanwe
Malcolm Ohanwe (born 1993 in Munich) is a German-Nigerian journalist, media personality, and television host.
Early Life and Education
Ohanwe was born in Munich, Germany, to a Palestinian mother and a Nigerian father, who worked as a barber. After graduating from high school, he began his journalistic career as an author for the German television network ProSieben and as an editor for the hip-hop-themed website Rap2Soul.de.
He studied English Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and Romance Studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, acquiring fluency in Arabic, German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish.
Career
In 2013, Ohanwe launched his YouTube channel, MalcolmMusic, where he conducted interviews with prominent R&B, pop, and hip hop artists. His bold interviewing style drew global media attention, especially in the American and British press. Notable interviewees include Tamar Braxton, Christina Milian, Michelle Williams, JoJo, H.E.R., Nivea, and Brandy.
He also worked as a journalist for Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), contributing to both television and radio segments. He appeared on-air as a reporter and presenter for the TV show "RESPEKT". In October 2023, following a series of posts he made on Twitter regarding the Gaza conflict, both BR and Arte publicly announced they would discontinue professional engagements with him.
Ohanwe also served as a television news correspondent for the English-language service of Deutsche Welle, reporting on cultural and political issues across West Africa from the Lagos bureau. Additionally, he has published work with WABE, a public radio station based in Atlanta, USA.
