Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic (formerly Rivers State Polytechnic) is a tertiary learning institution located in Bori City, Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State, Nigeria. It is a state-owned polytechnic approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and currently led by Engr. Dr. Ledum Suanu Gwarah as Rector.
The polytechnic operates two main campuses: - School of Management Sciences - School of Engineering
History
The institution was established by the Rivers State Government on 13 May 1988 to provide instruction and research in applied sciences, technology, commerce, and business management.
- On 28 March 1989, Governor Group Captain Ernest Adeleye signed the edict establishing the polytechnic.
- The formal commissioning took place on 19 May 1990 in Bori, the traditional headquarters of the Ogoni people.
- In 2007, approval was secured in principle by Senator Lee Ledogo Maeba to upgrade the polytechnic to federal status, but the state did not act on it.
- In 2009, the institution addressed challenges including cultism, emphasizing discipline and safety.
- The polytechnic is also engaged in regional environmental initiatives related to oil pollution cleanup, according to former Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
