John Momoh is a Nigerian broadcast journalist and the Chairman and CEO of Channels Television, an independent, multiple award-winning 24-hour news and media channel based in Lagos. He is widely recognized as a transformative industry pioneer with a career spanning over 37 years in news television broadcasting.

He delivered the maiden edition of the Distinguished Lecture Series of the University of Lagos Mass Communication Alumni Association, titled "The Mass Media: Setting the Nigerian Agenda". On 21 August 2020, he was appointed acting chairman of the University of Lagos Governing Council by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.


Early Life and Education

John Momoh is of Etsakọ origin and was raised in Lagos State, Nigeria. His father worked as a cook. Despite challenging beginnings, he went on to build one of Nigeria's most reputable commercial satellite television networks.

He attended Baptist Academy and later the University of Lagos, where he earned: - A Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication - A Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy

Other academic and professional recognitions include: - Professional Diploma from the UK’s Thomson Foundation - Distinguished Alumni Award from Lagos Business School (June 2013) - Training at Harvard Business School - Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and Nigerian Institute of Journalism


Career

Before founding Channels Television in 1995, John Momoh worked with Nigeria’s national broadcast networks: - Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) - Nigerian Television Authority (NTA)

He served as: - News Anchor - Senior Reporter - Senior Producer
