The Forum of Federations is an international organization based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
It develops and shares comparative expertise on the practice of federal and decentralized governance through a global network.
The Forum and its partners comprise a global network on federalism.

It connects the world’s leading experts with practitioners of government — elected officials, civil servants, and political operatives from many countries.
Its learning and technical assistance programs have been implemented in countries such as: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Burma, Canada, Ethiopia, Germany, India, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Libya, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, South Sudan, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Switzerland, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

The Forum’s direct relationship with governments on each continent enables it to promote intergovernmental learning in partnership with its member and partner governments.

  • Promote gender equality, inclusive governance, and peacebuilding.

MENA Women’s Leadership Program

  • Region: Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia
  • Launched: 2016, funded by Global Affairs Canada
  • Goal: Empower women for leadership roles and inclusiveness in governance.
  • Duration: 7-year project.

History

  • Originated from the First International Conference on Federalism (Sept 1999, Mont-Tremblant, Quebec).
  • Established as a permanent body in 2000.
  • Expanded scope to include post-conflict governance and decentralization.
  • By 2017, ten governments signed agreements as partners.
  • 20th Anniversary: Hosted “International Dialogue on the Future of Federalism” series.
