Eddy Chukwura Agbo
Eddy Chukwura Agbo is a Nigerian-born molecular biologist and the founder and CEO of Fyodor Biotechnologies. He is currently an American citizen.
Early Life and Education
- Agbo grew up in Mbu, a small village in southeastern Nigeria.
- He studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan, graduating as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
- He holds a Master of Science in Biotechnology from Wageningen University, Netherlands.
- He earned a PhD in Molecular Genetics from Utrecht University, Netherlands.
- Additionally, he obtained a Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management in the Life Sciences from the Johns Hopkins University Business School, USA.
Career
- Agbo held academic positions at:
- Utrecht University
- Wageningen University
- Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, all in the Netherlands.
- He conducted extensive biomedical research before moving to the United States.
- In the U.S., he became a Research Fellow at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
- He later worked at Cangen Biotechnologies, a cancer diagnostics and therapeutics company in Baltimore, as:
- Senior Director for Research and Preclinical Development
- Chief Technical Lead
- In 2008, Agbo founded Fyodor Biotechnologies.
Awards
- 2012: Fyodor received a Minority-Owned Business Achievement Award from the Greater Baltimore Committee.
- 2016: Fyodor won the Innovation Prize for Africa (Special Prize for Social Impact) from the Africa Innovation Foundation.
- The $25,000 award was in recognition of the Urine Malaria Test, which can diagnose malaria in 25 minutes.
