Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic (formerly Rivers State School of Basic Studies, Rivers State College of Arts and Science, and Port Harcourt Polytechnic) is a polytechnic funded by the Government of Rivers State. It is located in Rumuola, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The institution was renamed from Port Harcourt Polytechnic to Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, who signed the Port Harcourt Polytechnic Bill into law on 4 July 2016.
History
- 1984: The school was established on 19 April 1984 through an edict signed by Military Governor Fidelis Oyakhilome.
- 1987: It began operation as a tertiary institution affiliated with the University of Ibadan.
- Later: It gained affiliation with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for IJMB (Interim Joint Matriculation Board) pre-degree programmes.
- 1999: The institution was restructured as Rivers State College of Arts and Science (RIVCAS) and authorized to award Diplomas and Certificates in various disciplines. It had three schools: Arts, Science, and Preliminary Studies, along with the Institute of Continuing Education.
- 2006: RIVCAS was approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to offer National Diploma (ND) programs, officially becoming a polytechnic.
- 2016: The institution was renamed Port Harcourt Polytechnic following the passage of the Port Harcourt Polytechnic Bill by the Rivers State House of Assembly and subsequent signing into law by Governor Nyesom Wike on 4 July 2016.

Governing Council
The current governing council was inaugurated by the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and includes representatives across various educational institutions within the state, including Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic.
