History

The institution was established in 2014 as part of the Bauchi State government's efforts to expand access to teacher education and professional development. Initially known as the Bauchi State Institute, it was later renamed Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education in honour of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
